Behavior Specialist - K-12

1.0 FTE/8 hrs per day

Start Date: August 24, 2021

 

  • Sherwood School District pays the 6% employee PERS contribution, upon eligibility.
  • Salary rates listed are based on 2020-2021 salary schedule. Salary schedule for 2021-2022 is TBD.

 

The successful candidate for this position could be a licensed Teacher, School Psychologist or School Counselor, or a Qualified Mental Health Professional.  Salary schedule placement will be based on the licensed salary schedule.  

 

Qualifications:

  • Recent experience and/or specific training related to supporting students with significant behaviors in a general education setting

  • Solid understanding of Special Education law

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • OIS trained preferred

Position Description:

  • Support building teams with students who have significant behavior issues
  • Write behavior plans/programs for students
  • Provide training to school teams on best practices (managing escalating behaviors, writing and revising behavior plans, crisis response and safety)
  • Create opportunities for students to access mainstream classroom settings and core general education instruction to the fullest extent possible
  • Observe and give positive and constructive feedback to staff members and team
  • Write Functional Behavior Assessments and/or train school staff in writing Functional Behavior Assessments
  • Collect and analyze data and use the data to make program adjustments
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with team members, including, but not limited to, classroom teachers, instructional assistants, service providers, and parents, in often difficult circumstances
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management techniques
  • Maintain a confidential, non-preferential, non-judgmental manner towards the students, staff, and program
  • Effectively respond to common inquires or complaints from staff, patrons, members of the business community, etc.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in often high-stake situations
  • Provide supervision of Instructional Assistants
